Ana Maria Markovic, who has been dubbed the ‘world’s most beautiful footballer has earned an international call up and she has credited Cristiano Ronaldo for her achievement.

The Grasshopper star grew up in Switzerland but represents Croatia, unfortunately she will not be involved in the upcoming Euro 2022 as Croatia failed to qualify for the tournament.

But the 22-year-old is still grateful that she had the chance to make her international debut last year, and she has credited Manchester United legend, Ronaldo for her chance on the international stage.

Speaking to 20min, Markovic also mentions Croatian midfield maestro Luka Modric.

She said: “[Luka] Modric is definitely a great role model for me. He is a world footballer and represents Croatia.”

“There are many good players among the women, such as [Ramona] Bachmann.”

“But my absolute favourite player is Cristiano Ronaldo because he’s just so disciplined. I think it’s super important that you give your all in sport and have a good mindset like him.”

Since her debut, she has made a total of five appearances for her country and scored her first goal on the international stage in November against Moldova.

Markovic also stated that she’s flattered when she is labelled as ‘beautiful’ but hates being called ‘sexy’.

She said: “I liked the articles that called me the most beautiful footballer or one of the most beautiful because it makes me happy to hear that I am beautiful.”

“But then newspaper articles appeared in which I was described as the sexiest footballer. I didn’t like that.”

Markovic’s career started with FC Zurich, but she failed to make a single appearance for the Swiss club, as a result, she moved to Grasshopper in 2020. Since her move, she has now racked up 40 appearances for the club, scoring five goals.

It is no surprise a player like Ronaldo will have many people admiring him and hoping they can have a small taste of a career like his.

Despite his United team having one of the worst seasons in the club’s rich history. Ronaldo still managed to score 24 goals in 37 appearances across all competitions. Earning him a place in the PFA Premier League Team of the Year.

Ronaldo will be hoping his team’s fortunes will change in the new season under the guidance of new boss, Erik ten Hag.
