Liverpool captain Jordan Henderson also praised Alexander-Arnold’s performance and has urged his teammate to ‘switch off’ from the criticism he has faced this season.

‘I think you’ve got to give Trent license to get forward at times and produce what he can produce in the final third up the pitch,’ said Henderson

‘But I thought he was really good defensively as well tonight, he did the basics really well.

‘It was a really good performance so I didn’t have to cover too much.

‘I think it can be difficult, you try to not listen to social media, especially when you’re going through a little bit of a tough period as an individual or as a team.

‘You’ve got to switch off from social media and the noise around, and try to focus on what you do day to day and improve on your own performance, improve on the team’s performance, and just really stay focused on what we’re trying to achieve as a team.

‘But it can be difficult, that’s not easy with everything in the outside world, it can hurt players at times but you’ve got to try and find a way to use that as fuel and as energy to when you get on the pitch prove people wrong, and that’s what I’ve learned the older I’ve got really.’
