The suspected gunman who injured four people when had three rifles and over 1,000 rounds of ammunition stockpiled at the time of the attack, police said.

The suspect, Raymond Spencer, 23, allegedly shot 200 rounds of ammunition using an automatic rifle from a fifth-floor apartment on Friday. He reportedly had over 800 more rounds of ammunition and three additional firearms, including two handguns, at his apartment.

‘I’m thankful we didn’t lose more lives that day,’ Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee told reporters during a briefing.

A 12-year-old girl was shot in the arm, and a woman in her mid-30s and a 54-year-old man were also hit, police said. A woman in her mid-60s was grazed by a bullet on her back, but treated at the scene and released.

Authorities believe Spencer, who was identified as a person of interest in the shooting, died by a self-inflicted gunshot wound when officers barged into his apartment on Friday.

Spencer reportedly set up a camera in the hallway of his apartment building to monitor people approaching and had an appliance wedged against his front door to stop people from entering, police said.

Police had to ram open the apartment’s front door, Metropolitan Police Chief Robert Contee said during a briefing.

Parts for three additional rifles also owned by Spencer were found by police at a second apartment in Northern Virginia.

Investigators are still looking to establish a motive in the shooting, which took place near a prep school, Edmund Burke. It’s unclear whether the shooting was connected to the school.

They have ‘nothing approaching a motive at this point other than pure evil and hate,’ Contee told .

‘It appears this person was just shooting at anyone who was out there randomly,’ he added.

Some of the firearms were purchased legally, while others were ‘constructed.’
