House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has tested positive for Covid-19, her deputy chief of staff Drew Hammill tweeted Thursday.

‘After testing negative this week, Speaker Pelosi received a positive test result for COVID-19 and is currently asymptomatic,’ Hammill said. ‘The Speaker is fully vaccinated and boosted, and is thankful for the robust protection the vaccine has provided.’

He added: ‘The Speaker will quarantine consistent with CDC guidance, and encourages everyone to get vaccinated, boosted and test regularly.’

The California Democrat on Wednesday tweeted a photo of herself next to President , who she stood next to at a bill signing event at the White House.

Pelosi, 82, also embraced former President Barack Obama on Tuesday during his first visit back to the White House since 2017 to tout the Affordable Care Act.

After Vice President Kamala Harris, Pelosi is second in line to President Biden.

Several other officials in Washington have tested positive for the virus this week, including Attorney General Merrick Garland, Commerce Secretary Gina Raimondo and Representatives Adam Schiff and Joaquin Castro.

Pelosi is the highest-ranked US official to test positive for the virus since former President Donald Trump contracted Covid-19 in October of 2020.

A planned congressional delegation to Asia, led by Pelosi, will be postponed, Hammill said.
