Robbie Keane has urged Arsenal to sign a new striker before the transfer deadline and rated Tottenham’s top-four chances.
The Gunners have won 15 of their 18 league games this season to storm eight points clear at the top of the Premier League.
Manchester City and Manchester United are struggling to keep pace with Mikel Arteta’s side, who only finished fifth last term but have been brilliant this season.
Arteta is keen to strengthen his squad during the January transfer window and Keane believes the Gunners need cover for Gabriel Jesus following his injury.
Eddie Nketiah has impressed in Jesus’ absence but former Premier League striker Keane is unsure whether the 23-year-old can propel Arsenal to the title.
‘I think it’s unlikely that we will see too many big-name players moving, with the possible exception being Arsenal,’ Keane told .
‘If you look at them, they don’t have an out-and-out striker who they can rely on. Eddie Nketiah is doing really well for them at the moment, but he’s young.
‘Missing Gabriel Jesus is massive for them in trying to maintain their title challenge.
‘To have a chance of getting over the line ahead of Manchester City, I think they’re going to need to go and get someone who could get you 20 a season.’
Arsenal beat north London rivals Tottenham 2-0 at the weekend to extend their lead at the top of the English top-flight.
For Spurs, a painful but deserved defeat leaves them fifth, five points outside the Champions League places.
‘I think with Tottenham, they still have a really good chance of getting into the top four,’ Keane, who made more than 300 appearances for Spurs, added.
‘They don’t need to go big this month, the players that they have are good enough. Certainly after beating Crystal Palace 4-0 recently, they showed how good a side they are when things go to plan.
‘Son Heung-min got back in the goals at Selhurst Park, so he should gain more confidence from that, and Harry Kane is on fire as well.
‘I think if those two lads are flying, they are going to do well. They need to get their injured players fit again too, and that will help the squad.
‘Richarlison, Rodrigo Bentancur, Lucas Moura and Dejan Kulusevski are all massive players, and are big misses when they’re out. But I do believe Tottenham will finish in the top four.’
