Napoli Salute Osimhen’s Victory With Super Eagles Vs Leone Stars

Serie A club, Napoli have saluted their player Victor Osimhen’s victory with the Super Eagles of Nigeria over Sierra Leone in a 2023 African Cup of Nations qualifying game, Completesports reports.

The Nigerian team defeated the Leone Stars 2-1 on Thursday at the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja.

Panetolikoos winger, Jonathan Morsay, gave Sierra Leone the lead in the 11th minute.

However the Nigerian team equalised on 16 minutes with a well placed finish by Alex iwobi to the left side of the goalkeeper, following a pass from Moses Simon.

Osimhen got the winning goal in the 41st minute with a right-footed shot from Simon’s headed pass.

No goals were scored in the second half though Villareal winger Samuel Chukwueze came close to scoring, taking a shot from close range after Osimhen passed to him in the box.

Napoli tweeted: “@victorosimhen9’s Nigeria in 2-1 triumph over Sierra Leone.” The club further celebrated their Nigerian forward’s good performance against the Leone Stars on their website.

“Victor Osimhen was in action for his country on Thursday,” the Napoli message reads.

“The Napoli forward played all 90 minutes and scored what proved to be the winning goal in Nigeria’s 2-1 victory over Sierra Leone in the African Cup of Nations qualifiers.”

Osimhen has scored 11 goals in 21 games for the Super Eagles.

Up next for the Super Eagles is another Afcon 2023 qualifying match against Sao Tome and Principe on Monday 13 June at the Grand Stade de Marrakech, Morocco.

Nigeria currently sit in the second position in the 2023 AFCON Group A table on three points, behind leader Guinea -Bissau, who have better goal difference after thumping Sao Tome and Principe 5-1. Sierra Leone are third, while Sao Tome and Principe bring up the rear.
