Lionel Messi has admitted ‘many things will change’ after the upcoming World Cup in Qatar as far as his football career is concerned. The 35-year old was back to his typical best on Friday, March 25 when Argentina ran out comfortable 3-0 winners over Venezuela.

The Paris Saint Germain superstar scored his nation’s third goal in the match against Venezuela, with Nico Gonzalez and Angel Di Maria also getting on the scoresheet for La Bombonera.

Speaking after the game, the question of Messi’s future was brought up and the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner gave a cryptic, yet telling response.

“I don’t know what I will do after the World Cup. I am thinking about what is coming,” Messi said as quoted by ESPN.

“After Qatar I will have to reassess many things.”

The Argentine however added that his decision to consider his future in the national team had nothing to do with past frustrations.

“It has been a while that I am happy here, since before winning the Copa. I am thankful for all this they make me feel every time I come to Argentina,” Messi said.

Will Messi quit international football after the World Cup?

Asked whether he planned on hanging his international boots after the Qatar World Cup, Messi said:

“I don’t know, the truth is I don’t know. I think about that is coming, which is close, Ecuador (on Tuesday). The preparation matches in June and September.

“Let’s hope these go the best way possible. But for sure after the World Cup many things will change.”

As far as his club career is concerned, Messi has not faired very well for his new club PSG, and was recently booed by his own fans during a Ligue 1 match.

But somehow, he was in better spirits for Argentina, and his performance on Friday was widely praised by fans on social media.
