has left out of the starting line-up as Liverpool face in the Community Shield, saying that he simply wanted to put a side out that was well acquainted with each other.

The Uruguayan striker was by far Liverpool’s biggest signing of the summer and the Reds will be hoping that he replaces the goals of , who has left for Bayern Munich.

The 23-year-old has already made an impression in pre-season, scoring four goals in a 5-0 win over RB Leipzig in a friendly, but it has not been enough to earn himself a start against the champions in Leicester.

Klopp has dismissed any doubts over form or fitness, but simply said he thought a more established, experienced side would have the best chance of dealing with Pep Guardiola’s immense team.

Asked by ITV if it was a tactical, form or fitness decision, Klopp said: ‘Neither. The line-up we’ve chosen is used to each other and we think against an opponent like City it makes absolute sense when everybody knows 100 per cent what he has to do.

‘I would say Darwin is in a really good way and will come on today definitely.’

Reds legend Robbie Fowler is very excited about the arrival of a big physical striker at Anfield, and thinks it makes up for the disappointing loss of fellow Liverpool hero Mane.

‘I was disappointed with Mane leaving, but I don’t think they could have kept him and Mohamed Salah with the wage demands,’ Fowler told the BBC.

‘I’m very buoyed by the fact they have gone and got Darwin Nunez. I think he’s a good player and I think he will score goals.

‘The fact he has been in Champions League games and scored against top teams, he will understand what the demand of the Premier League is all about.’
