Jamie Carragher has aimed a dig at after he was accused of making the ‘biggest contradiction ever’ about their rivals .

News emerged on Thursday that City have reportedly lodged legal challenges against the over 115 charges of alleged rule breaches.

City are believed to be disputing the legality of the charges brought against them as well as the barrister in charge of the process, according to .

The current champions have allegedly challenged the involvement of the head of the Premier League’s independent judicial panel Murray Rosen KC – a self-proclaimed Arsenal fan – with his club involved in a title race with City this season.

Former Liverpool defender Carragher took to Twitter on Thursday to discuss City’s reported legal challenge and posted: ‘Man City are a state run club.

‘[They] can buy virtually who they like [and] they have 115 FFP charges brought against them by the Premier League.

‘But I don’t believe this level of football [and] results is possible without the genius of Pep Guardiola.

‘If they win the treble this will be the best season we’ve ever seen from any team in this country.’

Football influencer Mark Goldbridge, a United fan who boasts a large social media following, took issue with Carragher’s remarks and said: ‘That reads like the biggest contradiction ever.’

Carragher replied: ‘So if it’s all about the money, why have your club done nothing for 10 [years]?

‘If it was still Mancini/Pellegrini in charge of Man City we would not be seeing this level of football.’

If City do win the treble this season, having reached the Champions League final on Wednesday and firmly favourites for the Premier League title after Arsenal’s collapse, they would become just the second English team ever to achieve it.

Their Manchester rivals United are currently the only English side to win a treble, which they registered in 1999, and the Red Devils can stop City if they beat them in the FA Cup final on June 3.
