How many teams are taking part in the World Cup?
A total of 32 teams will be taking part in the in 2022.
Every nation except Qatar – who qualified automatically as hosts – had to progress through continental qualifying in order to book their place at the tournament.
Europe will be the most represented continent at the tournament with 13 teams, with Africa and Asia having five representatives each.
South America have four, along with North and Central America.
Australia are the only representative from Oceania, although they booked their place in Qatar by taking part in the Asian qualification stage.

The usual cast of World Cup favourites are taking part in this year’s tournament.
Global heavyweights , France, Spain, Portugal, Germany, Brazil and Argentina will all be vying for World Cup glory in Qatar.
Wales are gearing up for just their and their first since 1958, whilst Canada will also be contesting their second ever tournament on the global stage.
Four time winners Italy shocked the footballing world by failing to qualify for their second World Cup in a row, with the Azzurri conceding a dramatic late goal to North Macedonia in the play-offs earlier this year.
The list of notable absentees from the tournament also includes Chile, Colombia, Nigeria and Ivory Coast.

How many teams have taken part in previous World Cups?
Since 1998, 32 teams from around the world have taken part in the World Cup.
However, this has not always been the case – 24 nations took part between 1982-1994.
In the period 1934-1978, only 16 teams were given a place in the greatest show on Earth.
And the first ever World Cup held in Uruguay in 1930 consisted of a mere 13 teams.
The 2026 World Cup set to take place in the USA, Canada and Mexico will feature a record 48 teams, with FIFA keen to give as many countries as possible the chance to experience World Cup football.
When are the squads announced for the World Cup?
The provisional England squad for the World Cup will be on or around Thursday, October 20.
At a later date, will whittle the group down to the final 26 players who will join him on the plane to .
The other nations will also announce their provisional and final squads around the same time.
The FIFA deadline for final submissions is November 13, with the squad limit increased from the usual 23 players to 26.
