Glen Johnson has provided his prediction for Saturday’s huge north derby between Arsenal and Tottenham at the Emirates.
Mikel Arteta’s side are top of the Premier League table after their opening seven games, winning six and losing once.
But ’s Spurs are unbeaten and just a point behind them in third, with Tottenham able to leapfrog their rivals with a victory.
Arteta is attempting to guide his side to a top-four finish for the first time since 2015-16 – but some have tipped them as dark horses for for the title after their strong start.
Others, though, have criticised Arsenal, insisting they have benefited from an easy run of fixtures and have pointed out their defeat to .
The Gunners have recorded wins over Crystal Palace, Leicester City, Bournemouth, Fulham, Aston Villa and Brentford so far this term.
Tottenham, meanwhile, have beaten Southampton, Wolves, Nottingham Forest, Fulham and Leicester and drew against Chelsea and West Ham.
Quizzed about this weekend’s north London derby, Johnson told : ‘It’s going to be a tough one to call to be honest.
‘Tottenham look great, Arsenal look great. Finally, we’ve got two good teams going into the north London derby!
‘I literally have no idea how the game will play out because Arsenal surprised me, Tottenham look really solid. This game is probably the biggest 50/50 this season.
‘It would be a massive win for either team, because both teams are performing really well and you’ve got to show that you’re at that level.
‘There’s a lot of teams in the league that can get to a position near the top of the table, but it can be false, because it depends who you’ve been playing.
‘These are two clubs now where they’re both in form, they’re both knocking around the top of the table and you’re going to have to prove that you’re the best at some stage.
‘This is their first big test, for both teams. [I’m going] 2-1 to Arsenal.’
Johnson was also asked to compare Harry Kane and Gabriel Jesus, feeling the Arsenal striker has a better ‘all-round game’.
‘I’m a fan of both but I have to go for Kane,’ he added. ‘I’m a big fan of Jesus, but Kane is a proper goalscorer.
‘Jesus’ all-round game is better, but if you’ve got a goalscoring opportunity to win the game then I think Kane is the man.’
