Bruno Fernandes admits ’s players are in the dark over ’s future.

The United superstar was axed from the squad after he refused to come on as a substitute against Tottenham in midweek with his side 2-0 up and looking to close out an important win.

In his absence, United battled to a creditable 1-1 draw at Stamford Bridge after ’s late equaliser earned a valuable point in the battle for a top four place.

United looked the better team during the opening period and squandered several gilt edged opportunities with and Marcus Rashford particularly culpable.

Whether Ronaldo returns to bolster a forward line that has mustered fewer goals than bottom of the table Leicester City so far this season remains to be seen but Fernandes insists the Ronaldo situation will be dealt with in house.

‘We don’t talk about that, we keep it quiet inside,’ Fernandes told Sky Sports when asked about how United’s players had reacted to Ronaldo’s behaviour and subsequent punishment.

‘We have to deal with that inside and nobody else has to know what we think, or what we want, or what will happen because also we don’t know.

‘So the most important thing for everyone, including Cristiano, is the team wins and I’m pretty sure of that.’

Regardless of Ronaldo’s short and long-term future, former United captain Roy Keane believes United must address their lack of potency up front if they are to keep pace with their rivals in the table.

‘The big problem for Manchester United has been scoring goals. Leicester City who are bottom of the league have scored more goals than United and for the attacking players United have that’s not enough.

‘They’ve found a way to score an equaliser but they need more of a goal threat going forward.

‘I’m sure we’ll revisit Ronaldo over the next couple of weeks if he’s going to be brought back into the group but Ronaldo has to be a good option when your team aren’t scoring goals.’
