Besiktas reportedly want to sign Wolves striker Raul Jimenez to replace Wout Weghorst who is set to join .

Weghorst has been linked with United since the start of the January transfer window and on Thursday it was .

Erik ten Hag is hoping that the transfer can be completed in time for his new player to make his debut in Saturday’s derby match against .

The 30-year-old had spent the first-half of the season on loan at Besiktas from Burnley, but his switch to United hit a stumbling block with the Turkish giants demanding compensation for losing the striker mid-season.

With that now all sorted, the Black Eagles are on the hunt for a new target man to replace Weghorst who had scored nine goals and made four assists in 18 games prior to his departure.

And if reports in Turkey are anything to go by, they are looking at bringing in an established Premier League striker, with claiming that Jimenez is their top target.

The Mexico international joined Wolves from Benfica in 2018 and was an instant hit, scoring 44 goals in his first two campaigns at Molineux.

However, he hasn’t looked the same player since sustaining a severe head injury in 2020, scoring just nine goals since then and none in the Premier League this season.

With Julen Lopetegui now in the dugout, it is unclear whether the 31-year-old still has a future at the club and as such he may well be available for transfer this January.

If he moves to Besiktas, he’ll be able to reunite with former Wolves teammate Roman Saiss as well as several other ex-Premier League players including Dele Alli and Nathan Redmond.

In the meantime, having lost to Nottingham Forest in the Carabao Cup on Wednesday night, a game in which Jimenez scored, Wolves’ next match will be against West Ham on Saturday, in what could prove to be a relegation six-pointer.
