Mikel Arteta remains keen on strengthening his Arsenal side before the transfer window closes on Thursday night, with the Spaniard open about his determination to sign more players.

The Gunners have made an emphatic start to the season, winning all four of their Premier League matches so far this term.

Arsenal have been one of the biggest spenders in world football this summer, securing the likes of Gabriel Jesus, Oleksandr Zinchenko and Pablo Vieira for around £130m this summer.

But Arteta remains open to securing further signings and the Spaniard feels his squad are weak in wide areas.

That’s led the Gunners to identify Wolves ace Pedro Neto as a priority target and the club had hoped to land the Portuguese winger before the transfer window closes.

However, the Athletic say the move is now ‘highly improbable’ for two reasons.

Firstly, Wolves are unwilling to let Neto leave so late into the window because they had not planned on losing the 22-year-old this summer.

Secondly, the club’s £50m asking price is deemed too high by Arsenal, who value the winger at closer to £30m.

The Gunners therefore do not expect to land Neto this summer but will keep tabs on the midfielder for the remainder of the season, with a view to bidding for him again in 2023.
