He may be back at former club these days but Ashley Young still has coursing through his veins.

The veteran returned to Villa Park last year following a spell with Inter Milan and despite being a month away from his 38th birthday, he’s shown he’s still up for the fight by making 29 appearances this term, 23 of which have been starts.

The former winger left Villa for Manchester United in 2011 for a fee of around £18m and he spent a decade at Old Trafford.

Young captained the side on a number of occasions and made 261 appearances in all during his time at the Theatre of Dreams.

The veteran was a substitute for Villa’s trip to Anfield on Saturday and though Unai Emery’s side couldn’t hold onto their lead in the final stages, the dropped points from Liverpool mean Manchester United and Newcastle are virtually guaranteed top four spots.

Only last week, Gary Neville said the ‘unthinkable’ could happen by Liverpool sneaking into the top four.

But, in a tweet to the United legend after the game at Anfield, Young said his ‘plan had come together’ by handing United a Champions League spot.

‘Nothing like a plan coming together, OOPS,’ said Young.

Young then tagged Neville in the tweet, which was a quote tweet of a video in which Neville worried Liverpool might make the top four.
