A small airplane crashed into a backyard in Houston, Texas, on Friday afternoon, bursting into flames.

‘We’re not going to make it!’ the pilot could be heard telling the Air Traffic Control tower.

The Cessna 421C Golden Eagle departed Hobby Airport around 2.15pm, but minutes later, the pilot called in saying that they were ‘having problems with our engine’, according to .

Additionally, the pilot said they needed to ‘turn back to the airport as soon as possible’.

The aircraft missed two houses and damaged a fence and gazebo when it hit a backyard.

All four passengers managed to escape uninjured, according to the Houston Fire Department.

Images of the scene showed scorched earth where the plane smashed down. The white exterior was black from a fire at the tail of the aircraft. Plumes of smoke rose into the air.

‘We can confirm that a Cessna 421 C Golden Eagle had an emergency landing near Monroe Road and Fuqua Road,’ Hobby Airport tweeted.

A homeowner was seen using a garden hose to try to extinguish the fire on the gazebo until firefighters arrived, the TV station reported.

The crash occurred on the 8600 block of Heathglen Lane, near Dobie High School in Houston as students were about to be dismissed. Students were let out late, and none were injured.

Federal investigators are probing the incident.

The plane crash did not disrupt Hobby Airport’s flight schedule.
