A terrified injured climber was stuck on the edge of a sharp cliff overnight after an accident.

The man fell in Kolob Canyon, which is in Zion National Park in the US, which gave him multiple injuries and left him stranded over the weekend.

The Utah Department of Public Safety Aero Bureau posted images and footage of his miraculous rescue on Instagram.

Warning people to be careful while out climbing, the department wrote: ‘He spent the night there cold, injured, unprepared. Please plan ahead before you go out.’

Rescuers sent out a helicopter and then lowered someone down to help the climber.

Another video shows the injured man being pulled up to safety.

The post added: ‘Shout out to the park rangers who located him and guided us in. A quick pick and a short flight later the victim is safe.’

The identity of the climber or the extent of his injuries were not released.

The Utah Highway Patrol commented under the post: ‘Nice work team!’

The Rock Climb Every Day website offers advice on how to rock climb safely.

It says: ‘Safety is and should be one of the important concerns in Rock Climbing.

‘It is usually done in areas where medical assistance is not readily available.

‘The sport presents a physical and mental challenge with minimal danger.’

The website recommends knots and harnesses need to be double-checked to ensure they are properly secured.

Wearing a helmet is also strongly encouraged, as is bringing enough gear for the intended journey.
